Mit has been received today by the civil defense of the enclave due to the strong storm that has left tents and shelters flooded or damaged, it has reported the international press.
“ We have recorded floods in entire camps, in all areas and cities of the Gaza Strip, since dawn today,” Gaza’s civil defense said in a statement quoted by the EFE news agency.
Civil defense added that rescue operations were carried out between the displaced population due to the war between Israel and the Islamist Hamas group, which began in October 2023.
One year after the outbreak of the alleged ceasefire in Gaza — which did not stop Israel’s daily attacks — the continued restrictions imposed by the Israelis and the lack of funding oblige 1.65 million inhabitants to face the fourth winter in damaged tents and damaged buildings, according to data from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
In images shared from Gaza, just before dawn today, it is possible to see lightnings and streets with streams of water that drag tarps and flood tents where the belongings of entire families are found.
Civil defense has announced sending 30 teams to various areas to deal with the devastating effects of the storm and respond to emergency calls.
This morning, the residents of a three - story building — which collapsed partially due to the strong winds near the Ahli Club in the Nuseirat central refugee camp — were removed. Civil defense reported no injuries.
To the north, a young man was rescued after the roof collapsed on him, without suffering serious injuries, detailed the rescue organ.
“ Winter in a tent is not just a season, but a nightmare,” he warned in a report last October, Nesma al-Sallaq, NRC accommodation coordinator in Gaza.
