Protestos for the right to housing and CGTP demonstrations against the “brutal increase” of the prices of houses, fuels and food baskets are taking place today in several cities of the country, including Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra.

Under the motto “More salary, better pensions and public services .

In Lisbon, CGTP will hold an afternoon demonstration at 2:30 p.m., starting at Cais do Sodré to finish at Rossio.

In statements to the agency Lusa, the leader of CGTP, Tiago Oliveira, said that the demonstrations claim that each person who “feels the difficulties of day-to-day”, due to the “brutal increase” of the prices of housing, fuel and food basket, and who “feels the public services to be displeased”, is “heard” and has “the opportunity to fight the policy in progress”.

In Porto, the CGTP protest will end precisely in the square where protests for the right to housing have been taking place a week ago.

Meanwhile, the organization of the movement for housing that has occupied the square D. João I has already announced that it will return to build tents and camping today on site.

“We will come back. We'll stay. Saturday, Praça D. João I, at 12am, in support of the demonstration of CGTP; at 7pm, camped ", reads in a press release released on Friday.

In Funchal, the delegation of Madeira of the Workers' Union in Public and Social Functions (STFPS) promotes a demonstration “against impoverishment, rights and a better life”, starting at 10:00.

The trade union stressed that in the Autonomous Region of Madeira “inflation remains above the national average, further increasing the essential goods and services”, and it is up to “the Regional Government to adopt concrete measures that respond to the increased difficulties experienced by workers”.

Still “for housing, against repression and in solidarity with the “campada” of Porto” is planned a concentration in Faro, at 17:30, in the Rotunda of the Forum, by various movements and collectives of the Algarve, which emphasize that “it is one of the regions where it is more difficult to buy or rent a house” in the country.

On the last weekend, following a demonstration by the right to housing and against the cost of living, held during the Saturday afternoon in Porto and other cities, more than 50 people remained camped in Praça D. João I.

In the early hours of Thursday, the movement denounced a police charge, which will have caused injuries in 39 of the participants, two of whom in a serious state, and on Thursday evening about 3,000 people joined the initial protesters.

The movement has six main claims: they are against the law of rents, they call for the definition of maximum ceilings for rental values, the end of evictions and the purchase of real estate by vulture funds, more public housing and the recovery of vacant properties for housing.
