News to Minutes

What will be the future of Max Verstappen in Formula 1? A Red Bull in transition unable to fight for the upper seats and apparent dissatisfaction with the situation have been fuelling speculation about alleged conversations to move to McLaren – eventually by 2027.

The world champion has a contract until the end of 2028 and has in the Austrian formation a second house that he already knows well – he was almost always linked to the motor racing project, until before reaching the queen category, and reached the current team ten years ago.

However, in recent years, fundamental elements have emerged (with Adrian Newey and Max Verstappen's engineer Gianpiero Lambiase at the head) and the performance crisis seems to have no end in sight. It is also a transitional period in which the structure is adapting to a new reality in your story as manufacturer of drive units in partnership with Ford.

At the press conference on Thursday (16 July) in Spa-Francorchamps before the GP of Belgium, transcribed on the FIA website, dutch was asked about the rumors and whether it has an established date to decide. He replied briefly: “No. There's nothing to say on my part“.

Later, he was asked whether he had a desire to stay at the Red Bull in 2027, to which he openly retorted: “I don't want to come here and say yes and no, and this or that, about my future. I have said several times that if there was something new, I would say it myself”.

But he was also confronted with a question about the current Red Bull situation, commenting: “We're just looking to the future, trying to fix the current problems we have in the carBut this is a very open discussion. Sometimes you get a little disappointed or angry after a race. [...]. Of course, in a few years, you're a little more competitive than othersBut when it comes to my approach and how we work as a team, nothing really changes. People come and go. I think that sometimes it is also part of the process”.

At McLaren, Oscar Piastri short and direct

If Max Verstappen doesn't seem to have put a solid stop to speculation, at McLaren there should be at least one closed place. This, judging from Oscar Piastri’s answer to the question as to whether he will be staying at McLaren in 2027: “Yeah. I didn't realize that was a point of discord. Obviously, I've heard some rumors. I am very comfortable where I am, and Zak [Brown] and Andrea [Stella] have been great and very reassuring,” he said, quoted by Formula 1.

If Oscar Piastri isn't, in fact, nowhere (renewed for several years in 2025), there will only be room at McLaren next year if Lando Norris doesn't continue. The champion of 2025 signed a multiannual contract in 2024, which will expire at the end of this year.
