O presidential candidate of the party France Unsubmissive (radical left), Jean-Luc Mélenchon, pointed out the government as responsible for causing a “regime crisis” in the country, due to the disturbances that occurred today, which coincided with social demonstrations and mobilizations.

Mélenchon replied in particular to Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, who criticized him for assigning responsibility for violence to police commands.

“ Start by clearly pointing out those responsible: that is, those who plunder and destroy”, Lecornu said on social networks.

In his answer, the radical left candidate accused the Prime Minister of having “played with fire”, for “in betting on wear, the only thing he managed was to unite all youth and workers’ unions.”.

In addition, he cited information published by the satirical magazine ‘Le Canard Enchaîné’, which indict orders issued by the Government to trigger a “wild repression” in the words of Mélenchon, which “has provoked unprecedented mobilization in the country.”.

“ You're not a man of state. He's just a subordinate who's causing a regime crisis. Don't you realize the damage you're doing? Is there nothing better to do at this time than to get involved in this petty dispute and give moral lessons?”, asked Mélenchon.

The presidential candidate also urged the police to “reflect”, arguing that the government “sowed disorder with its absurd and incompetent decisions”.

“ He will abandon you at the first opportunity”, he predicted.

“ My message is clear: those who share our struggle have nothing to do with looting and destruction”, he said, demarcating from looting and other acts of violence and vandalism.

For the historical leader of the National Union (RN, extreme right) and also presidential candidate, Marine Le Pen, “the legitimate social demands were once again kidnapped by the extreme left and speeches of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s deputies, who, by legitimizing violence (...), seek to plunge the country into chaos”.

The president of the RN, Jordan Bardella, denounced, in turn, “the professionals of chaos”, and Eric Ciotti, ally of the party of Le Pen, condemned the “red fascism” present in the streets.

Today's national protest day was called by the “yellow vests”, a social protest movement that gained its size in France in 2018 and 2019, to challenge the high cost of living.

The student movement that has led in recent weeks a wave of contestation in France has also called for participation in this journey.

At least 400 people were arrested today for acts of violence during the day of protests that took place in several cities in France.

The French authorities estimated that 550,000 people will have gone out on the street throughout the country.

The organizers of the protests said, for their part, that 800,000 people have spoken on the French streets.

From north to south of France violent protests were reported, with hooded protesters and masks burning cars and buildings, breaking shops and throwing objects against security forces, who fought back with tear gas and stunning grenades.
