Sand decide to talk about series with a Netflix subscriber is likely not to want to mention “Mindhunter” – one of the original Netflix series whose cancellation remains a cause of great sadness for those who have had the opportunity to see it.
“Mindhunter” featured David Fincher (“Seven”, “In Part Uncertain”, “Combat Club”, etc.) as “showrunner” and director of a good part of the episodes and was entitled to two seasons, one released in 2017 and another in 2019.
Unfortunately, fans were never entitled to any new episodes, and in 2023 Fincher spoke about the case and implied that it was highly unlikely that there would be another season.
“ I'm very proud of the first two seasons. But it is a particularly expensive series and, in the eyes of Netflix, it did not attract enough audience to justify the investment.”, said Fincher at the time. “I don’t blame them. They took some risks in launching the series, gave me the means to do what I wanted with ‘Mank’ and allowed me to go on new paths with ‘The Killer’.”.
On the other hand, Netflix co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, has now stated at an event organized by The Indian Express that he would love to release more episodes of “Mindhunter” when asked about a film or a series to which he would like to return.
“ It is not a second part, but a third part I would have liked to have done: ‘Mindhunter’, the David Fincher series on Netflix”, said Sarandos according to the collider site. “ We always wanted there to be a third season and he got busy making a movie. David [Fincher] is an extremely meticulous creator, so he could not do two things at the same time and certainly did not want to harm any of them.”.
Sarandos recalled that, at the time, the director was busy with the production of “Mank”, which meant that the third season of “Mindhunter” ended up being “postponed and postponed”.
“ I would have loved to have seen a third season of ‘Mindhunter’”, declared the leader of Netflix.
Of course, this does not mean that “Mindhunter” will be entitled to a third season, but since Sarandos seems to be a fan of the series and is on the side of fans with regard to continuing “Mindhunter”, it is possible that in the future it will be possible to revisit the project.
