A Guard of the Islamic Revolution, Iran's ideological army, announced today that a fire broke out aboard a tanker after a collision with a mine in the Strait of Ormuz.
The incident raises to 10 the number of vessels that, according to Tehran, collided with these explosives last week.
“ This supertanker, who carried more than two million barrels of crude, tried to cross an unauthorized route in the south of the Strait of Ormuz when he hit a naval mine and exploded”, the Guard said, at the end of Tuesday, in a statement released by the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
According to the statement, the ship had all its radar and navigation systems off and ignored the Revolutionary Guard Navy's warnings.
The force did not identify the flag of the vessel hit, nor did it provide details of possible victims or material damage.
“ Owners and crews of vessels sailing through the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea must respond by transiting by unauthorized routes; any action that ignores security in this strait will receive a strong response,” the Iranian military warned.
On Tuesday, the Revolutionary Guard had reported that two other tankers collided with explosives during Monday night.
The Iranian authorities reported on Tuesday that a total of 122 vessels were included in the list of offenders for violating navigation protocols in the Strait of Ormuz, and that another 30 received warnings and will be added to the list if they do not comply with Iranian standards.
The Islamic Republic has been trying to maintain the blockade of the Ormuz Strait since the start of the war triggered by the United States and Israel on 28 February as a pressure measure.
On the other hand, the United States claims that it has managed to restore the transit of vessels and that oil trade in the region has reached levels close to those before the war.
A total of 135 maritime incidents and 76 injured or killed at sea have been recorded since the start of the United States and Israel's war against Iran, the British Maritime Safety Agency UKMTO indicated on Sunday.
Of the 135 maritime incidents recorded in the period, 114 resulted in ship damage, the same source was advanced.
Last week, UKMTO recorded 12 attacks on vessels: 10 in the Strait of Ormuz, one in the Persian Gulf and one in the Gulf of Oman.
The incidents include the sinking of a containership, hit by a projectile on October 13, with no record of injuries among the crew.
Another attack on a tanker on October 11 resulted in the disappearance of two crew members, according to the Indian authorities mentioned in the report.
