What's a tachycardia?
According to the CUF health network website, tachycardia is characterized by “a change in heart rate, which corresponds to a faster heart rate than normal”.
In this way they explain that there may be various types. “They are classified according to the cause or area of the heart affected with different severity and consequent need or variety of treatment.”
In some situations there is no need for some kind of intervention, but this is not always the case. “In others, it can significantly alter the functioning of the heart, increasing the risk of serious cardiac events such as arrhythmias or even death.”
Some of the symptoms go through rapid heartbeat, heart palpitation, rapid pulse, chest pain, dizziness, fainting, difficulty breathing, nausea, fatigue, sweating.
“ Tachycardia results from a change in electrical impulses that control the heart muscle contraction rhythm. This can occur due to several factors, such as a heart tissue injury resulting from a heart disease, a congenital defect of the cardiac electrical pathways or even anemia”, continues the CUF.
They also reveal how tachycardia can be treated. “It goes through the reduction of heart rate, the prevention of future episodes and the minimization of complications and can be regulated with medication or lifestyle changes, depending on the underlying cause.” In some cases, surgical intervention is needed, as was the case with Cristiano Ronaldo. “It may be necessary in some cases to eliminate abnormal electrical tissue.”
