The number of couples with both unemployed elements dropped 11% in August, in homologous terms, but rose 4.1% compared to July, totaling 4,353, according to data released today by IEFP.

“ Dthe total number of unemployed married or in a de facto union, 8,706 (8.1%) also have a record that their spouse is also enrolled as unemployed in the employment service, totaling 4,353 unemployed couples in August 2026, which represents -11.0%, compared to the same period of the previous year”, reports the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).
In the chain comparison, the number of couples in which both spouses are unemployed rose 4.1%.
For several years, couples in this double unemployment situation have been entitled to an increase of 10% in the amount of unemployment benefit when they are dependent.
The IEFP also announced that the number of unemployed people registered in the employment services on the continent was 265.162 at the end of August, which represents an annual retreat of 9.3%, but an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous month.
