O agreement includes computing capacity and also involves Softbank and SB Energy, advanced the company in a statement, advancing that “guaranteeed the land, energy and structure of the building”, on the technological campus PORTS-Pike, to “house computing capacity” and that this initiative is fundamental to the “next industrial revolution”.
In a notification to the Securities Commission (SEC), Nvidia specified that its obligations amount to USD 105 billion, provided that SB Energy complies with the requirements of having the data centre “ready to operate” from 2028.
SB Energy will build, detain and operate the data center under a 20-year lease agreement with OpenAI client, specifies the company.
“ We are ensuring long-term infrastructure for Nvidia's computing, so that OpenAI can implement the most productive AI plants, which can be updated repeatedly to each new generation to offer more intelligence and better profitability,” Nvidia's founder and CEO Jensen Huang said in the statement.
“The AI plant” will use Nvidia’s full DSX platform and its initial deployment is designed to support 4,25 gigawatts of computational capacity, with the chip manufacturer having the “option” to enlarge it, says the statement.
SB Energy executive co-director Rich Hossfeld said that the company – together with Softbank, OpenAI and Nvidia – is building infrastructure essential to an “unprecedented scale”, while having a positive impact on the Ohio community, to which it promised well-paid jobs and investments.
In addition, Nvidia increased its investment in SB Energy by $1,500 million. The company received funding from Softbank and OpenAI.
The data center is being built in an area that covers private and federal land, also relying on the collaboration of the Department of Energy, the Department of Commerce and the electric services company AEP Ohio.
