Jaime Antunes, former vice president of Benfica, gave, this Monday, an extensive interview to the program ‘Bola Branca’ issued by Rádio Renascença, in which he argued that FC Porto and Sporting were benefited, last weekend, in the victories achieved, respectively, on Maritime (by 1-2) and Sporting Braga (by 1-3).
“The Benfica, in the last season, was severely affected by arbitration, and this year, apparently, things have not changed, because, if we see, only to evaluate by this journey, in the case of Sporting, there is clearly a penalti that is not marked, and, in the case of FC Porto, in case of doubt, the VAR decides in favor of FC Porto, giving due reason to the recent declarations of FC Porto, saying that, in Portuguese football, there are strange things, and there are, in fact, strange things,” he said.
In this sense the economist acknowledged that “the initiative of the direction of Benfica to propose to the Portuguese Football Federation a radical change in organization and management is a commendable initiative”... but not enough: “I think it’s good that the club takes these initiatives, but that doesn’t stop it from taking positions, because our rivals talk about arbitration every day. FC Porto systematically conditions the arbitrators and withdraws the benefit. By the way, it's a bit of that maxim of 'Who doesn't cry, doesn't suck', isn't it? And FC Porto takes this to the limit”.
“Benfica does not have to go after others or copy them. On the contrary, Benfica has to lead. Now that Benfica has to be a voice heard by the football organs, the Federation and the League... And it has to be heard rationally. Benfica doesn't want to be benefited. Now, it is not to see others systematically to be benefited to the detriment of Benfica ", reflected.
“ I do not see a management of national football by responsible entities in a professional and balanced way. I see little capacity for regeneration, little ability to change old methods... In the case of FC Porto, they stick, appeared with a new president, who looked like a new face, with other ideas. After all, FC Porto keeps the methods strictly equal to the time of Pinto da Costa ", completed.
Benfica speaks of “Total VARgonha”
Jaime’s position Antunes appears less than 48 hours after Benfica himself resorted to social networks to publish a video, under the caption “Total VARgonha”, in which he questioned that Oskar Pietuszewski was effectively behind the last man of the maritime defensive line, when he received the pass in depth from fellow countryman Jakub Kiwior, at the goal of FC Porto’s victory.
A bid to which the incarnates added another, in this case, of the duel held on the eve, in the Municipal Stadium of Braga, which culminated in a victory of Sporting, on the Sporting of Braga, by 1-3, when a shot by Denis Huseinbasic hit in the hand of Issa Doumbia, in the large minhota area, without the referee, João Gonçalves, of the Football Association of Braga, had pointed to the mark of maximum punishment.
