“ Ooil prices are falling like stones (...), because people feel that there will be no war with Iran. Iran wants a deal as soon as possible. This could happen!”, wrote the American president on his Truth Social network, after having said on Sunday that he was ready to give a “sledge” in Iran.
Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance also stated today that Donald Trump and he were feeling “very optimistic” about a negotiated agreement to end the war with Iran.
“ I had several constructive discussions with the Iranians,” Vance told journalists, highlighting that he had talked to Donald Trump before.
“The president and I are both very optimistic about the prospects of eventually reaching a negotiated agreement,” he added without setting a deadline.
These statements appear on the same day that two leaders of the region and a third person close to the subject informed the Associated Press news agency that Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is pressing the US for a new wave of attacks on Iran following the mid-term elections in the United States, to be held this Tuesday.
A large-scale return to war with Iran could help Netanyahu form an emergency government after he and his far-right allies lost the parliamentary majority in last week's elections and Israel.
US President Donald Trump has alternated his statements on the subject between threats of major attacks and trying to negotiate an agreement with Iran.
The two leaders, quoted by the PA, said that diplomatic efforts went ahead, with mediators from Qatar conducting two rounds of talks last week with Iranian authorities. And they said that the mediators are trying to move forward with an agreement so that Iran will cease its attacks on the Strait of Ormuz in exchange for lifting the US blockade to Iranian ports.
Besides, they said there's more talk planned for this week.
The two responsible spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing confidential information, briefings that they had received from American authorities and, in one case, Israelis.
One of these officials said Netanyahu was working with top officials of the U.S. administration to convince Trump to launch a fast but extensive air campaign, and that the US president apparently has not yet made a decision.
