A structure of the Azores of the CFP will advance with its bench in the Assembly of the Republic with proposals to change the State Budget of 2027 in the areas of Justice, Lajes and housing.

Marco Varela, the leader of the CFP/Açores, intends that, within the framework of the responsibilities of the State in the region, Justice promotes the conservation of structures, together with the strengthening of human resources, in the face of a “great need and insufficiency, as well as equipment in the phase of deep degradation”.

The leader, who spoke at a press conference in Ponta Delgada, after a party meeting, said that in the case of the Base das Lajes, the former workers are concerned, intending that these “can receive what was taken away from them with the sustainability factor in the period 2025 to 2023”.

These workers were reformed following the reduction of the US presence at the Base das Lajes.

“The sustainability factor was eliminated from 2024. It just didn't count between 2015 and 2023. And, the workers' claim is the payment of values ", said.

Marco Varela made it clear, on the other hand, that if the CFP had parliamentary representation in the Legislative Assembly of the Azores “it would make the Budget Plan of 2027 impossible because it does not correspond to the needs of the region or the Azoreans”.

“At a time that is almost daily the brutal increase in the cost of living”, the PCP/Açores believes that action should be taken by the Government of the Azores to mitigate these impacts on households.

The leader said that in the chapter of housing “it is not seen in the Plan and Budget of 2027 signs of a concrete response to the problems of the Azoreans” which, “on the contrary, worsens”.

The leader stressed that there is a “set of instruments that could meet responses” to Azoreans such as the addition to the national minimum wage, which “is at 5% and has not been updated for more than 20 years, when it could go to 10%”.

In addition to the additional remuneration, which “has been updated but timidly” in view of the increase in the cost of living and wages, according to Marco Varela.

“In the region, the Regional Government, consisting of the PSD, CDS-PP and PPM, presents a Plan and Budget for 2027 that prolongs the right-wing policy and aggravates structural deficits and inequalities in the distribution of wealth, without responding to the problems and needs of the population. This policy has the support of the CHEGA and the IL ", says.

The CFP/Azores also reiterated that it rejects the “privatisation strategy at any price, which undermines public interest and regional development”, with four “strategic enterprises” such as Azores Airlines, SATA’s ‘handling’, SEGMA and Global EDA being concerned.

Communists demand “the general increase in wages and pensions, work with rights, strengthening support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and regional production, guaranteeing rights to mobility, health, education and housing, valuing local production, robust public services and quality and maintenance, in the public sphere, of strategic enterprises for the Azores”.
