O Rio Ave announced, in the form of a statement issued through official platforms early this Sunday afternoon, that Vasco Seabra is the man elected to take over the technical command of the main football team, following the resignation of Sotiris Silaidopoulos, who did not resist a start of a sports season of 2026/27 below expectations.

“Rio Ave Futebol Clube – Football SAD informs that it reached agreement with Coach Vasco Seabra to take over the technical command of the main team. To ensure the hiring of the coach, Rio Ave FC paid the termination clause provided for in the contract linking Vasco Seabra to its previous club ", begins by mentioning the note.

“ At the age of 43, Vasco Seabra is a coach with a consolidated career in Portuguese football and extensive experience in the main national division. Vasco Seabra thus assumes the technical command of the Ave FC River, starting a new stage in the service of the Vilacondense emblem. Portuguese coach signed with Rio Ave FC until 2029 ", adds.

The Vilacondenses also state that the pacense will already guide the training of Monday morning, with the debut in the bench of alternates scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (Hour of Continental Portugal) next Sunday, October 11th, at the clash of the eighth day of the I Liga, before the National, in the Stadium of the Arcs.

How much does Arouca fit, anyway?

This announcement appears only a few hours after Arouca announced the departure of Vasco Seabra, a coach with whom he had a valid contract until the end of the new sports season of 2026/27, and which eventually earned him a financial fit of about one million euros, given the activation of the termination clause foreseen in it.

“Football Club de Arouca reports that Coach Vasco Seabra and the other members of his technical team have ceased their contracts with the Club. The cessation occurs following the communications received, via email, in the last days, through which the coach and his technical team expressed the intention to put an end to the contracts in force”, he said.

Rio Ave will be the tenth challenge of Vasco Seabra's career as senior senior coach, after the passages by Lixa, Paços de Ferreira, Famalicão, Mafra, Boavista, Moreirense, Marítimo, Estoril and, more recently, Arouca.

Hard task on the Ave River

Vasco Seabra arrives in Rio It lives at a time when the club is ‘dipped’ in a crisis of sports results, which translates into a record of five losses, a draw and only a victory after the first seven days of the I League, which leaves it in the 16th and antepenultimate position of the table, with four points, as many as National and Casa Pia.

The reception to the National will mark the beginning of a ‘crazy’ cycle of games, in which will be ahead, also, Louletano (on October 17, in the Algarve Stadium), Famalicão (on October 25, in the Stadium of Arces), Académico de Viseu (on November 1, in the Municipal Stadium of Fontelo), and Sporting de Braga (on November 8, in the Stadium of Arcs), in the space of less than a month.
