Mthen three oil tankers burned down today in the narrow strategic of Ormuz, at the heart of the conflict in the Middle East, announced the Guards of the Revolution in a statement.

Iran claims control of that maritime route, through which one-fifth of the world's hydrocarbons moved before the war triggered at the end of February by attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran.

Iranian forces regularly attack ships that venture without their permission, sailing along Oman's shores. Recently, there were reports of several ships that suffered explosions, saying they had hit mines.

Washington imposes in retaliation a blockade on Iranian ports and oil escorts along Oman's coasts, ensuring that it has largely depleted that waterway.

The Revolutionary Guards, Iran’s powerful armed force, indicated on their ‘site’ Sepah News that “three tankers in violation” had “burned while sailing the illegal route in the Strait of Ormuz since the first hours” today, speaking of “explosions”.

The Iranian forces did not specify the names or nationality of the tankers affected.

The Irna agency had previously indicated that two of the ships had “collided with naval mines.”.

UKMTO reported today that an oil tanker caught fire on Saturday in the strait off Khasab, a coastal city of Oman.

“ Military authorities reported that the tanker was on fire, which led to the withdrawal of the crew,” the agency indicated in a statement, reporting that another tanker was hit by an “unknown projectile” on Saturday.

The United Arab Emirates state media today declared that 22 people were rescued from a burning ship in the Gulf of Oman and were in a stable state.

The AFP failed to confirm that this incident was related to that reported by UKMTO.

Saturday night, the official news agency Irna had indicated that explosions had been heard in several areas of the Strait of Ormuz, including the Iranian island of Qeshm and the port cities of Bandar Abbas and Jask, without specifying the cause.

Later, the authorities confirmed an “impact” in Jask, according to the same source.

The U.S. Army had recently carried out limited attacks on Qeshm, according to the United States.
