Sif you want to know if an egg is in order, do you use the glass test? If when you float, you always think it's broken, you might be throwing out an egg in good condition. Isabel Pedroso Silva specializes in clinical nutrition and explained everything in a video shared on social networks.

In the video he began by simulating the egg test in a glass of water that many people end up performing. When it goes down, many people believe it's good, and when it floats they end up dumping it in the trash because they think it's not in order.

Is the egg really broken?

“Does an egg floating in the water mean it's really broken? Not necessarily” reveals in the video that Isabel Pedroso Silva shared this week on her social networks.

“This water test tells us especially if the egg is more or less fresh. The more time passes, the more air accumulates inside the egg. That's why a fresh egg tends to lie on the bottom and an old egg gets up and can float. But floating does not automatically mean damaged.”

“ To evaluate, the first thing to do is look at the date of the package. Then confirm that the shell is intact and when we open the egg first we smell and then we see the general appearance. Do not forget that the date of packaging is not the day on which it was put, it is the date of the minimum durability that can go up to twenty-eight days after it has been placed”, continues the specialist in clinical nutrition.

The publication also shared other points and care to be taken to keep eggs in the best way at home.

1- “Do not wash the eggs before you store them. The shell has a natural protection that works as a barrier and washing can facilitate the entry of microorganisms by pores.”

2- “If the guards in the fridge, prefer an inner shelf instead of the door, where the temperature varies more.”

3– “Category A” on the label only means that they are fresh eggs intended for direct consumption, not a nutritional classification.”
