The São Paulo team was thus comfortable in the game, but the expulsion played by Andreas Pereira, at 42 minutes, brought Athletico back to the game.

The former Fulham decided to kick another ball that had entered the lawn, thrown by the fans, while the opponent conducted an organized attack situation, and the referee was not fashion: second yellow card and the consequent red.

Palmeiras was at a numerical disadvantage, but managed to maintain the same defensive cohesion in the second part and hold the victory, not going through great leaps.

With this triumph, the third one followed in the championship, Abel Ferreira's team took the provisional leadership of Brasileirão, counting 66 points, two more than Flamengo, which only comes into action this Sunday.

In turn, Athletico continues with 53 points, but risks losing third place during this round, in case Fluminense manages to beat Santos.

In the next round, Palmeiras returns home to receive the Bragantino RB, and you will not be able to count on Andreas Pereira, but Piquerez will also be absent noticed by accumulation of yellow cards. In reverse, Abel will be able to count on the return Captain Gustavo Gómez and the right-hand Giay, who played a suspension game against Athletico. Vítor Roque is counting with an ankle injury and remains in doubt.

However, and even before returning to the action in the championship, Palmeiras will have to play the 2nd hand of the Cup Liberators against Fluminense, after winning the first hand by 2-1.

Abel applauds players

After the match, Abel Ferreira was satisfied with the team's performance, but was even more pleased with the way the players reacted to expulsion.

“The team yields as a collective. We knew that our opponent, very well trained, with a tactical system of three defenses and super offensive, would come in strong and press. From the moment we had the expulsion, I always tell the players: ‘No one plays alone’. All raced for another ", started by saying the Portuguese technician, in a press conference, quoted by Globoesporte.

“A just victory. When you're out of the house with one less player, it's hard to get a ball, but we had an excellent one with Sosa to make the third goal. In general we were sympathetic to defend, closed intersections and spaces. The defenses were very well ", praised Abel.

Abel to attack: “If it weren’t for the president, I would have been fired”

Abel Ferreira applauds, not only Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, but also Agustín Giay, who contributed two goals to the triumph won by his Palmeiras over the Corinthians, by 4-1.
