“ Athe complaints were received and the investigations were opened”, aiming at Emmanuel Grégoire and Anne Hidalgo declared prosecutor Laure Beccuau to radio France Inter.
“ We have several complaints (...) from different origins that were gathered and, therefore, the investigations were initiated ", said.
Since the beginning of 2026, 132 monitors responsible for the activities organized in schools outside of school hours have been suspended by the City Council of Paris, 52 of which on suspicion of sexual or sexist violence.
In addition, more than 200 criminal surveys involving basic schools and day care centers in the French capital are ongoing, both in schools and in extracurricular activities.
The prosecutor clarified that they were received, so far, “three complaints” against the municipal administration or local authorities.
The most recent occurred on Friday, when about 15 families, who denounced violence and sexual abuse against their children, announced having filed a complaint against the City Council of Paris, the President of the Socialist Chamber, Emmanuel Grégoire, and the predecessor Anne Hidalgo (2014-2026). Grégoire was Vice-President of the House of Paris in the administration of Hidalgo for six years.
Gathered around the collective “MeTooEcole”, these families ask justice to investigate what these authorities knew about the failures in extracurricular activities.
The prosecution referred to crimes of deliberate exposure to danger, omission of assistance to persons in danger and the lack of reporting of crimes committed against children, some between the ages of 02 and 04.
“ Although the scandal is national in scope, Anne Hidalgo considers that these investigations are extremely desirable to understand how Parisian children could be handed over to pedestrians,” said former mayor Patrick Klugman’s lawyer, France-Presse (AFP).
Consulted by AFP, the Emmanuel Grégoire team did not want to make statements.
Grégoire and Hidalgo will be heard next week by a Senate inquiry committee. Many families expressed indignation at the slowness of justice.
“These are necessarily lengthy investigations,” Laure Beccuau admitted, stressing the complexity of these cases.
