In his statement, the mayor informed that he will forward the complaint to the Public Prosecutor, based on Article 40 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure, and submit a formal complaint for those responsible to be identified and prosecuted.
The mayor considers such incitements to racial hatred of “private gravity”, especially after the racist attack occurred eight days ago in Trappes, on the outskirts of Paris.
In this attack, a 39-year-old man shot a 26-year-old Frenchman and injured seven other people — including an 11-year-old girl, who was seriously injured in the nearby town of La Verrière.
The suspect, who was accused and imprisoned, admitted to choosing his victims for being Muslim or African or North African. The individual carried stickers from Marine Le Pen's National Meeting (Rassemblement National) party, made by himself.
The mayor of Paris pointed out that the discovery of the graffiti this Saturday coincides with the prohibition by the authorities of a colloquium on “remigration” — scheduled for today in Plessis-Robinson (on the outskirts of Paris) — and a demonstration called for this Sunday in the capital, due to the risk they pose to public order.
“Paris will not give in to racism and the far right,” Grégoire said.
