A initiative takes place until Sunday, November 1, and promises to mobilize around 21,600 volunteers across the country. In the last year, the Portuguese League Against Cancer has supported over 25,000 cancer patients.

Where does the money go?

In the last year, the Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC) has made available more than 2.2 million euros to support 25,200 cancer patients, helping to bear expenses with medicines and food, access to nutrition consultations, legal support and other responses to improve quality of life during the disease.

His intervention also extends to psychological and social support. In the last year, more than 21,300 psycho-oncology visits were performed, while more than 8,200 patients were followed up in day centers and almost 400 in homes.

In the area of prevention and early diagnosis, more than 14,500 consultations and 432,000 mammograms were performed.

These figures reflect a mission that seeks to ensure that cancer patients and their families do not face the challenges of the disease alone.

In addition to direct support for cancer patients and families, donations contribute to financing prevention, scientific research and oncology training initiatives.

“ Those who help, help a lot”

Behind this answer is also the work of thousands of volunteers. By 1 November, about 21,600 volunteers will be on the streets, in commercial spaces, churches and other public places, identified with the Portuguese League Against Cancer vest and will transport sealed vaults for donation collection.

“ When someone gives a donation to the Portuguese League Against Cancer, this gesture translates into medicines for those who cannot afford them, in psychological support for those who face the fear of the disease and in the possibility of, free of charge, having access to nutrition consultations or legal support ", stresses Vítor Veloso, president of the institution.

Anyone who does not have the opportunity to contribute in person can make a donation through the Portuguese League Against Cancer website, in www.ligacontracancro.pt/donative.

Every contribution counts, and for those facing an oncological disease, this help can make all the difference.
