A play “On November 20”, the Portuguese company Teatro Gíria, is nominated for the Awards Florencio 2026, in Uruguay, in the category of best foreign show of 2026, announced today the company.
“On November 20” has text by Lars Nóren, is directed by Rodrigo Aleixo and played by Francisco Monteiro Lopes.
On “The 20th of November” the Swedish author gives a voice to an 18-year-old, inspired by the figure of Sebastian Bosse, who is about to invade the school where he studied in order to make a massacre.
The Swedish playwright extensively researched the real attack in the German city of Emsdetten in 2006, reading the young man’s diary and publications on Bosse’s website on the Internet. The attack caused eight wounded, counting as the only mortal victim the shooter himself.
“On November 20th” is a “monologist, painfully honest and ruthless” in which Sebastian Bosse speaks “of the verbal, physical, and psychological violence of which he was victim, of the hatred for school, of the concept of freedom that, for him, is nothing more than an illusion, and of the feeling of not belonging”, says the Teatro Gíria.
The play was on stage in April at the Mandragora Theatre in Montevideo, during an international circulation supported by the Ministry of Culture through the General Directorate of Arts and the GDA (Management of Artists' Rights), adds a note of the production of the Gíria Theatre.
The nomination of the plays took place this week at the Solis Theatre in Montevideo, and the awards are scheduled for December 3rd, in the same theater.
The Florencio Awards are awarded by the Association of Theatre Critics of Uruguay and distinguish annually, and in various categories, the best national and foreign theatrical productions that were presented in Uruguayan theaters.
The Teatro Gíria and its directors welcomed the nomination of this show, which premiered in Cascais in 2020, and was already represented in Lisbon, Caldas da Rainha, Faro, Paço de Arcos, Mindelo, Cape Verde, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and Montevideo.
In February 2027, the Teatro Gíria will take the play to Argentina, and in September 2027, “The 20th of November” will be on stage at the Teatro da Comuna, in Lisbon.
Still in September 2027, the show will be on tour in Copenhagen, Madrid and Athens, and no date is still closed, advanced to Lusa Patrícia Fonseca which, with Francisco Monteiro Lopes and Rodrigo Aleixo, forms the company.
