O announcement of the last category, Economy (Economic Sciences), will not happen until the beginning of next week, on the 12th.

All categories will be announced in Stockholm, Sweden, except for the Nobel Peace Prize which, as usual, will be awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee and will have as its setting the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will be announced today at 10:30 (Lisbon time).

Studies related to GLP-1 hormone, which many drugs used against obesity, such as Ozempic or Mounjaro, imitate, are cited among the medical discoveries that may be awarded.

One of the Nobels that normally focuses attention is the award of Peace, which will be known next Friday, October 9.

In 2025, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, insistently complained that he deserved to be awarded, a hypothesis that largely divided opinions worldwide.

The Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Committee decided last year to distinguish Venezuelan opponent María Corina Machado, who would later offer the gold medal for the award to the American leader. The Nobel Institute clarified that the prize could not be transferred.

For this year, experts in the field, notably the Oslo Peace Research Institute (PRIO), point out among the potential winners the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Save the Children and Ukrainian Mykola Kuleba, who works to rescue Ukrainian children taken or transferred by force by Russia.

Other PRIO favorites include the Emergency Intervention Units in Sudan (ERR), a vast network of volunteers providing assistance to a population affected by war and famine, and the Committee for the Protection of Journalists (CPJ), since 2025 was once again a deadly year for the profession. Last February, this committee advanced that 129 journalists had been killed in 2025, a record number.

Also mentioned by other experts is the UN special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, the International Criminal Court, or even Pope Leo XIV.

Nobel Prizes were born of the will of Swedish chemist, engineer and industrialist Alfred Nobel to donate his immense fortune to the recognition of personalities who served humanity.

The inventor of dynamite exhibited this wish in a will written in Paris in 1895, a year before his death. The awards were first awarded in 1901.

The awards ceremony will take place on December 10, which marks the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death.
