Aafter the ceremony of the raising of the black and white flag at Stadium D. Afonso Henriques, in Guimarães, on the 104th anniversary of the club, which counted with the coach, Tiago Margarido, the leader highlighted “the will to go around” to a phase in which the minhotos add five goals and five points in seven days of the race, despite being the most finishing team alongside Benfica, with 134 attempts.
“ From what we have shown on these first seven journeys, the classification is not consistent with what we have done on the lawn. It's the ball that counts. In this sense, we need to work harder on a daily basis to make that happen. It's a bit frustrating, but internally, we believe a lot in the players and the coach [Tiago Margarido],” he told journalists.
Elected president on June 13, in an electoral act with four lists that won by a margin of two votes for the candidacy of Viriato Sampaio, Rui Rodrigues said he took office with “the club organ of a strategy for football”, before constituting the plants of the main team and the B team, which competes in League 3, with the help of the sports director, Fernando Meira.
“ Of course, we tried to do as much as possible. Everything that was done in terms of entrances counted on the opinion and decision of various sectors of Victoria. These were not isolated decisions or individualized by Fernando [Meira] and myself. They extended to scouting and coaches. I'm talking about the team. A and team B. Everyone had an opinion at the entrance of reinforcements ", described.
The maximum responsible for the Vimarans admitted, however, that “there were two or three exits that could have been achieved” in the ‘market’ of summer transfers, but that they did not happen due to factors beyond the control of the SAD, responsible for professional football.
“ We felt a little frustrated because there were two or three more exits that could have been achieved, but that surpassed us. We didn't get them to come true, but it's part of it. We entered a very difficult time and we must move forward”, he stressed.
The president of Vitória de Guimarães also pointed out that his direction is trying to “reactivate the club structurally”, focusing on “humanization” of the relations between the various departments of the club, something that, in his view, did not exist in the previous term, in which he was Vice President of António Miguel Cardoso.
“ Cold relationships were created inside the club. That's one of the main resistances we had and we're trying to unlock. We have seen here a frame of workers imbued with the same spirit. They believe as much as we believe. We have to set an example from the inside out”, he stressed, on the day that the writing of the Victoria Foundation will be signed, an entity for solidarity purposes.
