In August, car production declined 45.1 percent in Portugal compared to the same month last year. Only the light goods escaped the tendency to break.
The data released on Monday (14 September) by the Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP) show that in August 8,976 vehicles were produced in Portugal.
The vast majority (6,591) were light passengers, down by 54.7 percent. The light goods were 2,384, which represents an increase of 40.7 percent, and a heavy one is still produced (less than 99 percent).
In the accumulation of the first eight months of the year, Portugal produced 206,782 cars, a decrease of 6.3 percent when compared with the same period of 2025. Once again, dominate the light passengers (162.537), which have broken 6.3 percent.
Also the production of light goods dropped (5,5 percent to 42,607), as well as heavy goods (break 24.9 percent to 1,638 vehicles).
Smashing most vehicles go abroad
A total of 97.9 percent of vehicles produced in Portugal between January and August were exported – especially Europe (93.1 percent), with emphasis on Germany, France, Italy and Turkey. Africa comes second in a market led by Tunisia.
With regard to the assembly of heavyweights, there were five in August (less than 44.4 percent) and 182 in the accumulated year (which represents an increase of 17.4 percent). All these cars are heavy passengers, 74.7 percent exported.
