A annual variation of the index in july increased 0.3 percentage points compared to that recorded in june, month in which this indicator declined 1.1%.
Excluding the energy grouping, the aggregate index had an identical variation (-1.4% and -1.1% in the previous month)
According to the INE, all large industrial groups presented negative homologous variations, except for intermediate goods.
The groups of consumer goods and investment goods presented the most influential contributions to the variation of the total index (-0.8 and -0.6 percentage points, respectively), originated by variation rates of -2.5% and -3.1% (-2.7% and -3.2% in the previous month).
The energy grouping contributed -0.2 percentage points as a result of an annual variation of -1.2 percent (-1.0% in June), while the grouping of intermediate goods made the only positive contribution (0.2 percentage points), although the respective variation rate slowed from 1.6% in June to 0.5% in July.
In monthly terms, the industrial production index varied from -0.3% in July (-4.2% in June).
The groups of intermediate goods and consumer goods had contributions of 0.4 and 0.2 percentage points, respectively, resulting from variation rates of 1.2% and 0.8% (-1.1% and -5.8% in June), which were exceeded by the contribution of investment goods (-0.9 percentage points), resulting from the monthly reduction of -4.9 % (-3.7% in the previous month).
The objective of the industrial production index is to measure production volume variations at short and regular intervals.
The indices are obtained from the Monthly Industrial Production Survey, conducted by electronic form, from statistical units selected from companies based in the national territory.
