PS accuses Government of not listening to companies and sectors affected by the crisis

The PS today accused the government of not listening to companies and sectors affected by the inflation crisis, considering that the socialists are the alternative to the way of “insensitivity and incompetence” of the executive and the “budgetary responsibility” of the Enough.

O national leader of the PS João Torres spoke to journalists after a meeting at the headquarters of the PS in Lisbon about the impact of the crisis with representatives from the agriculture, food production, distribution, trade and transport sectors.

“ It seems very clear to me that this government has heard little and that is perhaps the most negative, most harmful brand that a government can leave in a crisis,” he said.

Admitting that it is “a challenge to face an inflationist crisis”, João Torres “the worst behavior and the worst attitude that a government can have in these circumstances is to deny the problem,” accusing the government of “not listening and involving structurally different contributions” of the companies and affected sectors.

The PS insisted on the accusations to Montenegro’s executive of “deep insensitivity, whether economic or social”.

“The country, fortunately, is not condemned to choose between a path of profound social insensitivity and incompetence, which is what the government advocates, and a path of profound political, economic and budgetary irresponsibility, advocated by the extreme right in our country,” he said.

According to João Torres, “there is a path of responsibility”, which is the one that says that the PS defends, which calls for “the adoption of more measures” to mitigate the increase in the cost of living, but “with very firm principles of fiscal and financial responsibility”.

“It is not, nor will it ever be, the Socialist Party that Portugal will risk having budget executions that are irresponsible. The Socialist Party does not align in the irresponsibility of the Enough ", reiterated.

The deputy of the PS recalled the 15 measures recommended in the draft resolution of the Socialists, which have already been discussed and failed in the past and who return to parliament this Thursday.

“ Support is needed now, it is necessary for yesterday,” he called, reaffirming that the Government has a budget margin of EUR 400 million, and that the package of proposals proposed by the PS costs EUR 185 million per month, which would be accommodable, in the accounts of the PS, by the end of the year.

Regarding the possibility for the PS to present these measures as proposals for amending the next State Budget, João Torres replied that “this depends on what the government submits in relation to the State Budget for the year 2027”.

“ Depending on what the State Budget proposal the Government submits and, of course, on the expenditure items that are considered and on the policy measures that the State Budget itself contains and also on a very important principle, which is not to question the stability of public accounts in our country,” he said.
