O PSD today argued in Parliament that the “reform of reforms is to ensure a better future” for the Portuguese, with the opposition accusing the government and the majority supporting it of being disconnected from reality.
In a political statement in the plenary of the Assembly of the Republic, Social Democrat MEP Miguel Santos listed some of the measures taken by the PSD/CDS-PP Government in matters such as taxes, wages, pensions and housing or “structural decisions” such as the decision to locate the new airport or TAP’s partial sale to Lufthansa today announced.
“The Government is obliged to create conditions for the Portuguese to build their lives. It is reform of the reforms to ensure a better future,” Miguel Santos said.
Although the deputy of the PSD never referred to the former leader of the party Pedro Passos Coelho – who has considered the current executive slow in practical implementation of reforms – both the Aquira and the PS took advantage of the words of the former Social Democratic Prime Minister.
“A Reformist Government? Not even Rabbit Passes believes it is. Or rather, he has made two reforms: the reform of the Court of Auditors, which makes corruption easy, and the reform of government ethics, when they keep ministers who are not able to be there afraid of what they know about you.”, accused the deputy of the Enough Ricardo Reis.
Congressman PS Armando Mourisco used the criticisms of Passos, but also those of former vice president of PSD David Justo or economist Óscar Afonso (who was elected by the Social Democratic bench), to appeal to the Government and AD to “leave the triumphalist speech”.
“ When does the government leave the rhetoric that everything is fine and really care to solve the problem that afflicts the Portuguese?”, he questioned.
In the answer, the deputy of the PSD Miguel Santos criticized the eight years of socialist governance, which he accused of having stopped making decisions so as not to “bite anyone”.
“ No one can say that this government does not take decisions because it is making them structuring in the various areas.”, said, ensuring that the PSD motto remains that of the party anthem: to give “peace, bread, people and freedom” to the Portuguese.
Implicitly, the parliamentary leader of the CDS-PP also sought to respond to the criticisms of Passos Coelho.
“ For those who accuse the Government of reforming only for the day-to-day and not making reforms, are these decisions not proof that the government governs to think about the future of the country?”, questioned Paulo Nuncio.
For the Free, Mrs. Isabel Mendes Lopes questioned the path that most PSD/CDS-PP has followed to get there to reach the desired “peace and prosperity”.
“ In practice, people no longer have income available at the end of the month and are distressed by the price of bread, housing or fuel”, lamented.
On the other hand, the parliamentary leader of the CFP, Paula Santos, accused the PSD of “no connection to reality”, saying that “half of the Portuguese have a gross salary up to a thousand euros” and do not even benefit from the descents of the IRS highlighted by the government.
Miguel Santos contested this argument, saying that those who do not pay IRS “has a head benefit, which is not paying IRS”.
“ And the second benefit is that, for this reason, it is benefiting from extraordinary increases of the National Minimum Salary ", stressed.
