“ O school year begins with so many students without teachers, at least to all disciplines. Every year this is it and every year the Minister of Education sells his langalenga that will make a technical improvement of automatic placement of teachers when the issue is background ", said José Manuel Pureza, who spoke to Lusa agency on the margin of the inauguration of the new district headquarters of the Left Block in Coimbra.
For the bloquist coordinator, the thousands of unfilled hours create a “dimension of turbulence, some chaos, in people’s lives”, without the government responding to what it considers to be the basic problem, which “is the cost of living”.
“ There are no teachers, especially in Lisbon, Setúbal and Tagus Valley, because the houses are expensive and the salary of a teacher does not behave that ", he noted.
Despite this, José Manuel Pureza recognized that the problem is not simple resolution and “no magic steps”, but defended a change in the conditions of attraction and exercise of the teaching profession.
“ Teachers and teachers were harshly punished by successive governments. Its function has been very disqualified, not only from a salary point of view, from the point of view of careers, from the point of view of social recognition, and therefore there is a very clear transformation to be made,” he said.
The coordinator of the Block found that the Government has given “no sign” of material appreciation of the teaching profession, and it is also necessary to resolve context issues, namely “chaos in housing”, which makes it more difficult to attract teachers to hard to bear price zones.
During the inauguration of the headquarters of the Left Block in Coimbra, a conversation is planned in which Purez participates, entitled “The struggle for hope against the policy of chaos”.
For the bloquist coordinator, chaos is not only at the start of the school year or in housing, but is also “promised for social security”, with the launch of the “perception of unsustainability” or health where “interminable waiting lines, closed emergencies and lack of doctors” are seen.
This strategy, he said, is “fed by the government itself to legitimize responses that have to do mainly with the disqualification of public services and their progressive transition, especially in the most cumbersome business areas, to private actors”.
This Friday the schools began receiving students for another school year that will be marked by the prohibition of ‘smartphones’ until the 9th year and by the already announced lack of teachers, especially in the Lisbon area.
Although there are still about 2,700 hours to be filled, the Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, said that this school year there will be “much fewer students without classes”.
One of the measures to minimize the problem that starts this school year is the possibility of schools calling daily teachers to replace missing teachers, a mechanism that starts on September 18.
