Depos of directors known as Martin Scorsese and George Lucas show themselves favorable to the integration of artificial intelligence tools in film productions, it was time for Christopher Nolan to show himself a little more skeptical about how this technology will be welcomed by the general public.
In an interview with HugoDécrypte’s YouTube channel, Nolan agreed to compare Artificial Intelligence with Trojan Horse – as it presents itself as something that is well received and ends up having devastating consequences.
“ I think Artificial Intelligence is a Trojan horse where everyone knows the Greeks are hiding there.”, said Nolan, adding that technology is “a transparent horse made of glass” since its risks and dangers no longer a mystery to anyone.
“I’ve never seen technology advance so quickly and it’s been so prescribed by the public”Nolan explained. “ Everyone's suspicions are so extreme, particularly among the younger ones. The reaction to the videos of Artificial Intelligence and the people of my children’s age, who immediately call ‘AI Slop’ [equivalent to ‘AI Trash’], coining this term and simply labeling it”.
This more skeptical attitude was admitted by Nolan in another interview given to The New York Times, where the director – known as “Inception”, “Interstellar”, “Oppenheimer” and “The Dark Knight” trilogy – pointed to the readiness with which the film industry wanted to abandon still viable technologies, such as film.
“ I embrace new technologies at all times, but they tend to be sold to people over systems that can still be valid and viable.”, clarified Nolan. “ This is what I saw in my industry – throwing away the baby along with the bath water. When we lose the films”.
