O former Portuguese international Hugo Almeida said today that Cristiano Ronaldo deserved “a farewell worthy of king”, for what he gave to the Portuguese football team and for considering that he is the best world player of “all times”.
The former forward, author of 19 goals in 57 matches by the team of ‘quinas’, recognized that he was “very sad” with the announcement of ‘CR7’, in a video released today on his social networks, because he considered that the 41-year-old Madeiran, world record player for selections, with 234 internationalizations ‘AA’, and goals, with 146, deserved more.
“ A person like him, who gave both the country and the selection, should have a farewell worthy of a king, but if he thought it was the best decision and is at peace with it, I wholeheartedly support his decision. There are players and people who come and go, but Ronaldo will be forever spoken and remembered as the best Portuguese player and the world of all time”, he said, in a statement sent to Lusa.
The former spearhead of FC Porto, União de Leiria, Boavista, Academica, Werder Bremen and Besiktas also recalled a person “lovable, quiet and playful”, with whom it was “easy to live” and which made all colleagues feel “better” when they entered the field to represent the team of the ‘quinas’.
“ It was a ‘shield’, a protection, that made us all feel the best, because it made us feel it,” he said.
The 42-year-old former player also highlights the triumph at home in Sweden on November 19, 2013, for the second hand of the 2014 World Cup play-off, in which a ‘hat-trick’ by Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the triumph (3-2) and the consequent Portuguese presence in Brazil, as the most striking game in which he participated with the ‘star’.
“ We all worked, because we knew he was going to make a difference, what happened ", admits.
World record of games by selections, with 234 internationalizations ‘AA’, and goals, with 146, Cristiano Ronaldo has as high points of career in the selection the conquest of Euro2016, in France, as well as two editions of the League of Nations, in 2019 and 2025, after the end of the bad memory of Euro2004, at home.
On September 30, the advance left the stage of the Portuguese team on the eve of the match against Denmark, the League of Nations, at the beginning of the cycle of Jorge Jesus in the technical command of the selection.
Ronaldo, who was a titular with Wales and an unused alternate with Norway, revealed that Jesus missed the floor more than once and that he therefore decided to leave the internship on his own initiative, a decision that cost him a 30-day sentence, already fulfilled, and a fine of 255 euros.
The last game by the team of 'quinas' turned out to be the triumph against Wales (1-0) played on September 24, on the first day of the League of Nations Group A4, more than 23 years after the debut on August 23, 2003, in Chaves, in a particular front of Kazakhstan.
The last goal with the Portuguese jersey was scored in the triumph against Croatia (2-1), in the 16th years of the World War2026, on July 3, Toronto, by converting a major penalty.
