O Al Wasl, trained by Portuguese Rui Vitória, today won the first victory in the Asian Football Champions League, while Al Gharafa, led by Pedro Martins, suffered the fourth consecutive defeat and remains in the final place.
The Portuguese technicians met different lucks on the fourth round of the West Region League, with Al Wasl imposing himself in the United Arab Emirates on the Iraqis of Al Quwa Al Jawiya, by 4-3, and Al Gharafa being shot at in Qatar by the Saudis of Al Qadisiya, by 5-0.
After two defeats, Rui Vitória's team celebrated the first triumph in the race, to which contributed the goals marked by the Portuguese defense Pedro Malheiro, at 45+1 minutes, and the Iranian advance Mehdi Taremi, former FC Porto player, who had inaugurated the marker for the hosts, at six.
Al Wasl rose 11th place, with less one game played, position much more favorable than that of Al Gharafa, which remained in the 16th and last position after the heavy defeat suffered today at home, remaining as the only team without any point won in Asian Champions.
At the opposite extreme, the United Arab Emirates' Al Ain reached the fourth victory followed and consolidated the leadership of the league phase by imposing itself by 4-1 in the Saudi stadium of Al Ittihad, with the Portuguese defense Rafael Rodrigues scoring one of the visitors' goals, while compatriot Danilo Pereira was a totalist in the hosts.
The Portuguese Francisco Trincão was the holder of the Al Ahli attack, but could not break the resistance of Al Sadd in Qatar, and the 0-0 draw could endanger the fourth place of the Saudis, as it could be overcome by teams that have less of a disputed encounter, such as Al Nassr.
The Day in the Region West began early in the afternoon under the sign of the Portuguese international advance João Félix, who scored two goals, at 17 and 32 minutes, and made two assists, in the election of the Saudis of Al Nassr in the visit to the Uzbeks of the Pakhtakor, at 6-2, before being replaced, at 68.
João Félix also offered the inaugural goal Abdulrahman Al-Hamdan, at 15 minutes, and made the assistance for Abdulelah Al Amri to mark Al Nassr's fourth attempt, at 53, in a match in which Samu Costa, a colleague of the ‘quinas’ team, was a totalist in the middle of the visiting camp, and in which the advanced Christian Ronaldo was spared by the Australian coach Ange Postecoglou.
