A Russia has today threatened to use all the means available to defend Kaliningrad, Russian enclave between Poland and Lithuania, expressing mistrust of NATO's denials of possible blockade of territory.
The spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, considered that the statements of representatives of the Atlantic Alliance denying the existence of plans to block Kaliningrad, are “hard to believe”.
According to Zakharova, Poland has drawn up operational plans to launch high-precision preventive attacks against the Russian enclave if “a war with Russia becomes inevitable”.
The spokesman said Warsaw plans to use US rocket launch systems HIMARS and Homar-K Polish systems with a range of up to 300 kilometres.
Zakharova added that the plans also include the participation of F-16 fighter planes in possible bombings against Kaliningrad.
The representative of Russian diplomacy has not provided any evidence to confirm the existence of alleged Polish military plans.
The spokesman recalled that Moscow has previously warned of the consequences of possible military provocation against the enclave.
Zakharova insisted that Russia would resort to all means at its disposal to defend Kaliningrad and warned that in this scenario “war will be short”.
Kaliningrad is a Russian territory in the Baltic Sea, separated from the rest of Russia and surrounded by two NATO member countries, Poland and Lithuania.
