The Secretary-General of the Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, said today that the Russian attack on a Ukrainian convoy near the Polish border showed the “level of despair” of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“ O attack on a passenger train in Ukraine yesterday [Sunday] shows the level of despair of Putin. He thinks he can stop us from supporting Ukraine and undermining our unity. You are mistaken”, said Mark Rutte to journalists.
A Russian drone hit the locomotive of the passenger train making the Kiev-Warsaw route, two kilometres from the border with Poland, a member of NATO and the EU, without casualties, the authorities of both countries said.
Warsaw said another drone hit a gas station near a border post, also on the Ukrainian side.
Today, the Russian Presidency said that the attacks on Sunday in Ukraine, very close to the Polish border, were part of the missions of the Russian Armed Forces.
“It’s a matter of Ukrainian territory. Our soldiers carry out missions throughout Ukrainian territory and will continue to do so,” said Russian Presidency spokesman Dmitri Peskov.
EU spokesman, Kaja Kalas, considered, in the margins of the European Arctic Summit in northern Finland, that the Russian attack was an act of intimidation in order to divide the allied countries of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Poland has promised to strengthen security along the border with Ukraine.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Moscow’s forces “look ready” to intensify the campaign against Ukraine’s borders with European countries.
