Na social media publication, Mark Rutte considers that “it is very good to see today the agreement signed by the United States, Denmark and Greenland”.

The NATO Secretary-General argues that, in view of the threats facing the Alliance, “increased security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic is essential for both Europe and North America”.

“ This agreement, together with NATO’s growing role in the security of this vital region, strengthens our collective security and contributes to a safer and more stable future for all of us,” he said.

In January, Rutte had reached a preliminary agreement on Greenland with Donald Trump, on the margins of the Davos summit in Switzerland, which paved the way for negotiations between the United States and Denmark and reduced tensions after the US President threatened to resort to military force to annex the island.

The leaders of the United States, Denmark and Greenland signed today in New York an agreement on Danish autonomous territory aimed at strengthening common security in the Arctic region.

The signing was held during a ceremony outside the UN General Assembly in New York, by Denmark's Heads of Government, Mette Frederiksen, and Greenland's Jens-Frederik Nielsen, and US President Donald Trump, who repeatedly threatened to use force to annex the Arctic territory.

On Friday, the parties confirmed that they had agreed, after months of negotiation, without giving details of the content, and the Danish leader stressed that her country's sovereignty over Greenland was ensured.

In his speech today at the UN General Assembly, the White House leader referred to a major military reinforcement in Greenland.

“ We will immediately begin the process of developing a large military presence at the appropriate locations,” he said, including “building two large bases”.
