A situation in Volkswagen Group it is delicate, with the leaders considering various cost-containment measures. And the Seat may have the days counted.
According to WirtschaftsWoche, the Spanish brand of the group may be discontinued by 2029 – that is, for the next three years.
That being said, Seat spokespersons quoted by the newspaper El Español clarify that no decision is made yet – while recognizing the adverse context in the car sector in general. O Minute Auto/Minute News he has already sent a request for clarification to Seat and the Volkswagen Group.
The idea will go through focus on the Cupra, brand born within the Seat and associated with more sports cars. It also has greater potential for profit margins.
Born in Spain in 1950 (76 years ago), Seat is of strong importance in the neighbouring country and is one of the best known brands in the European car landscape. It gives jobs to about 15,000 people, but it is true that in recent years it has been losing its role – the current range only compresses Arona, Ibiza and León... which also exists in the Cupra portfolio.
It should be noted that restructuring the Volkswagen Group can cost many thousands of jobs – up to 100,000 jobs have been cut in recent months. The closure of four factories in Germany will also be considered.
