Before the speeches of António José Seguro and Carlos Coins, the Portuguese flag will be raised on the balcony of the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Conselho, to the sound of the national anthem.
As usual, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-White, and the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, as well as representatives of the various parties will be present at the formal session in Largo do Município.
As President of the Republic, António José Seguro has made calls for moderation and convergence, calling for “vigilance and determination” in the face of “extremist currents” and alerted to the risks of setbacks in citizens’ freedoms and rights.
Insurance took over the position of President of the Republic on March 9, with a message of stability – in a context of PSD/CDS-PP governance without an absolute majority and Achem as second parliamentary force, ahead of the PS.
The former secretary-general of the PS, who was ten years away from politics, succeeded Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa as President of the Republic, after being elected in the second round of the presidential elections, on 8 February, by defeating André Ventura, president of the Aquida, with a record vote of more than 3.5 million votes, 66.84% of the vote expressed.
