Is it (finally) now? New Tesla Roadster can be revealed in August

Pif you are for days the presentation of the new Tesla Roadster, which has been suffering successive postponements in the face of what the manufacturer's leader, Elon Musk, promises.

According to The Information, which quotes three people on the subject, tesla is planning the presentation, which can take place in August – somewhere in the next 14 days.

This Roadster will have a limited edition version capable of flying, with design similar to the standard version. The launch event should have a stunt to demonstrate these skills.

This version comes from a collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX, two companies from Elon Musk’s “universe” – having even cold gas thrusters from the aerospace firm.

Because of the technology, the car will be operated remotely during the presentation and whoever is watching will have to stay several hundred meters away because of the noise. There's also a source that says that Elon Musk admitted to some Tesla employees that the demonstration will be fun, although it may not go well.

No surprise, limited edition version will not be legal to use on road, may have a price of EUR million. But also the serial roadster should have a low price.

Almost a decade of waiting and growing ambition

The second generation of Tesla Roadster was announced in 2017 and at the time, everything pointed to sales starting in 2020. Deposits that reached $250,000 for a limited edition were even accepted.

It is certain that, until today, the Roadster has suffered successive postponements. Elon Musk has been announcing a presentation with pomp and circumstance, almost out of science fiction, but the truth is that the time horizons that the entrepreneur has been mentioning always fail.

Over all these years, the idea behind the new Tesla Roadster will also have changed, with constant design reviews by Elon Musk. Ambition has grown to the point of setting the goal of creating a car capable of flying. The work for the integration of thrusters, alongside SpaceX, began in 2024.

Several drawings were also equated, in a car that was named internal code A-71 – in reference to Locheed SR-71 Blackbird, a plane that will have served as inspiration. Still, the final design should be more traditional, with a certain inspiration in the Lamborghini Countach, eventually with two places and butterfly doors.

Of a vehicle based on the current models of the remaining range, the goal will be to have a hypercar, with a carbon fiber structure and the need to hire new experts – including engineers from Italy, such as Stefan Nothdurfter (ex-Lamborghini).
