ANDm reported, Minister Israel Katz identified the wounded reservist as Neria Leiter, son of Ambassador Yechiel Leiter, and wished him a “quick recovery.”.
“Yechiel, I am with you and your family, and I pray together with the whole nation of Israel for the recovery of your son,” Katz added, addressing the Israeli ambassador in Washington.
The incident took place at a military checkpoint near the settlement of Beit Horon between Modiín and Jerusalem, and the soldier was transported with a “serious multisystem trauma” to Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem, the Israeli emergency service reported Magen David Adom (MDA).
“ I believe in the power of prayer and believe that when the people of Israel unite, miracles happen. Neria needs a miracle. Neria continued to serve in the reserve after losing his older brother, Moshe Yedidya Leiter”, wrote in turn the ambassador in his social network account X
The diplomat added that since October 7, 2023, the date of Hamas’ attacks on Israel, his son “served hundreds of days in the reserve on several fronts.”.
After he struck in the patrol car following the Israeli soldier and a police officer, the Palestinian driver was killed by the Israeli army.
Last weekend, the Israeli army had already killed a Palestinian who tried to run over soldiers operating in the area of the Israeli settlement of Ganin in northern occupied West Bank, and already today there was another attack in the centre of the West Bank, when a Palestinian shot at a group of Israelis near the settlement of New Tzuf, killing one of them.
