Adespite having great ambitions for your humanoid robots Optimus, Tesla is struggling to accelerate production in order to meet the goals set for the end of 2026.
According to the Information website, Tesla decided to increase the production of robots Optimus in recent months and intended to produce 1,000 units per week by the end of the year. However, the company has had difficulties in several areas, including the factory where these robots are being produced.
In May, Optimus robots began to be produced in the same factory that was previously dedicated to the manufacture of Model S and Model X electric cars in Fremont. However, it seems that the equipment present in this factory is not suitable for smaller robot components – especially in the hands/forearms, in which each has more than 100 screws.
“ Not only are Optimus production lines new, but the different parts of Optimus are much smaller and have to fit more accurately than car parts.”, write The Information.
At the moment it seems that each robot leaving the production line must be checked individually, with employees seeking to ensure that all screws and components are properly integrated into the robots.
Tesla also decided to postpone some features that were planned for the V3 version of Optimus. Touch-sensitive robotic hands, for example, have been postponed to a future Optimus model scheduled for next year, with the current version proving unreliable.
