O Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, explained during the presentation of the company's financial results that humanoid robots Optimus that are already being produced must be trained and compared the process with teaching a child.
“At first they are a bit clumsy and do not know how to do things and eventually learn to clean themselves up, which is a great achievement”, explained Musk according to the the Next Web site. “ They learn to do all sorts of things and learn to play. We need Optimus to play on a large scale to be really good at tasks in the real world.”.
This means that Tesla will have to produce a large number of Optimus units to be able to teach robot artificial intelligence the tasks they are supposed to perform. Musk said that it will be necessary to produce between 10 and 20 thousand of these robots so that learning is done at the desired pace by the company.
Musk mentioned during this presentation of results that it will even be necessary to create what the multimillion-dollar magnate called the Optimus Academy, where this learning of humanoid robots would take place.
It is worth remembering that this method of artificial intelligence training is what Tesla already uses to train the driving system of electric cars, which collect data from the already market vehicles to help train the company's software.
As far as the Optimus robot is concerned, Musk has strengthened its high expectations for the future of this product.
“ I still believe Optimus will be the biggest product on Earth”, said Musk. “From what I know, there is no one near Tesla as far as a general humanoid robot is concerned. At some point, there will be more humanoid robots on Earth than humans.”.
