A suspension of the strike was rejected by 81.2% of the votes, against 16.4% for and 2.4% for abstentions, the unions reported today.
Airbus has about 14,000 workers distributed by the plants of Getafe, Illescas, Albacete, Cadiz and the centers of Tablada and San Pablo in Seville.
Negotiations should be resumed on Tuesday, through the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (Sima), as scheduled last week, although the company has conditioned the continuity of negotiations to the suspension of mobilization.
The unions indicated that they will be present at the meeting and wait to see if the company “is responsible for their threats”.
During last Thursday's meeting, the management of Airbus Spain rejected the proposal for wage increases presented by the trade unions, even though it improved its initial proposal.
In an internal statement quoted by the news agency Efe, the company defended on Friday its most recent proposal, which includes indexing wages to inflation and an increase of 7.6% to be distributed for five years in order to regain lost purchasing power.
In addition, the company committed itself to an increase of 0.5% for annual wage review and 0.5% for promotions, as well as an exceptional payment of EUR 2,000.
In the letter, Airbus Spain says that the goal is to reach an agreement “that is beneficial for everyone”, “through dialogue”.
The company also considers that the latest proposal provides “a solid basis for a lasting agreement”, in line with the points put forward by the social partners and workers.
On the other hand, he warns that the continuation of the strike creates “a critical situation for both business and customers”.
The strike in Airbus Spain began on August 25.
