Othe artists are confirmed for the Stage Serra, the main concert space of the eighth edition of the festival, which will take place until August 2, with a schedule that reinforces the link “to the root music, cultural diversity and dialogue between tradition and contemporary”.
Promoted by the Associação Turística e Agrícola da Serra da Arada (ATASA), in partnership with the municipality of São Pedro do Sul, the Traditions is dedicated to the music of roots and to the valorization of cultural and natural heritage.
The organization stressed that Momi Maiga, a Senegalese musician based in Girona, has been internationally affirmed as “one of the most relevant voices of the new generation of creators linked to the Mandinga tradition”.
“Virtuoso da kora, singer and composer, Maiga develops a language where ethnic jazz, flamenco, classical European music and the music traditions of West Africa cross,” he explained.
Another highlight of the program is Miguel Quitério, “musician, interpreter and trainer who has dedicated his journey to the valorization of traditional music as a space for encounter and dialogue between different cultures”.
“ Accompanied by Quiné Teles in the percussions and Marco Silva in the cordophones, presents a repertoire that crosses original compositions, Portuguese music poetry and traditional melodies Galician, Portuguese and Irish, placing the bagpipes and singing in the center of a musical narrative marked by hope, sharing and the construction of possible futures ", he said.
Among the Portuguese projects confirmed for the Carvalhais festival are also Urze de Lume, “collective that for over a decade has been affirming a unique approach to folk music inspired by the Portuguese ancestral imaginary”.
The group uses traditional instruments such as the Rabel, the transmontana harmonica, the campanice viola and various Iberian percussions to build “an artistic universe deeply linked to the nature, spirituality and atavic traditions of the Iberian Peninsula”.
The tradition will also be reinvented by the Uxu Kalhus, who arrive at the Traditions in the context of the celebrations of their 25 years of career.
According to the organization, the Uxu Kalhus are “recognized for their ability to merge acoustic and electric instruments and to revisit the traditional Portuguese songbook through contemporary arrangements”.
The Serigosa project is also confirmed, which “part of the traditional corners of the Iberian Peninsula to build a language where pop and electronic sounds coexist”.
This project “recovers repertoires traditionally interpreted by women, transporting them to the present through a contemporary approach that preserves their symbolic and identity strength,” he added.
During the five days of the festival, Serra da Arada will be not only a space of music, but also of dance, nature and community.
This is because, more than a concert festival, Traditions is said to be “a participatory experience where public, artists and territory live through workshops, dances, environmental activities, intergenerational initiatives and moments of cultural sharing”.
In this context, in addition to the concerts of the Stage Serra, there will be workshops of dance, dances, musical workshops, concerts in different spaces of the room, activities related to oral tradition, nature trips, sustainability initiatives, conversations, street animation and proposals addressed to different generations.
“ The active participation of the public continues to be one of the central elements of the festival's identity, favoring a cultural immersion experience where the meeting and sharing take on a role as important as the shows themselves ", highlighted the organization.
