O archipelago of Madeira, eight districts of the continent and the eastern group of the Azores are from today under warnings due to the forecast of rain sometimes strong and accompanied by thunderstorm and wind, according to the IPMA.
The archipelago of Madeira will be under yellow warning because of the rain, sometimes strong, persistent and accompanied by thunder, between 12 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, then passing the orange warning between 6 p.m. on Saturday and 3 a.m. on Sunday.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) also issued a yellow warning for the archipelago of Madeira because of the strong wind, with gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour, between 12am and 6pm on Saturday, then passing the orange warning, with gusts up to 100 kilometers per hour, between 6pm on Saturday and 00pm and again on yellow until 3pm on Sunday.
The IPMA also placed the districts of Porto, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga under yellow warning due to the forecast of periods of rain or showers, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunder, between 3 pm today and 12 pm Saturday.
Also because of the precipitation, sometimes strong, the IPMA put the Eastern group of the Azores (São Miguel and Santa Maria) under yellow warning between 9:00 p.m. today and midnight on Saturday.
The orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk weather situation”, and yellow when there is a “risk situation for certain weather-dependent activities”.
According to IPMA, continental Portugal and the autonomous regions will be affected from Sunday until November 13 by rain, wind and sea agitation following a depression centered north of the Azores, called Bruna.
According to weather forecasts, the continent will feel the effects of Bruna depression, initially with the approach of an associated frontal system, from the beginning of Sunday morning, November 8th, and with the passage of successive frontal ripples “at least until the end of next week, on 13th”.
The question is “a depression centered north of the Azores archipelago, within a vast depression region where several cores will be formed in the coming days,” IPMA said, indicating that it will affect mainland Portugal, but also the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira.
According to the institute, depression Bruna is already conditioning the state of time in the Azores, and this influence is expected to continue for the next few days, with precipitation, wind and maritime agitation.
On the other hand, the Madeira archipelago should feel the effects of depression with the passage of frontal ripples on Saturday and Sunday, and the occurrence of periods of rain, as well as intense wind and strong ripple, warned the IPMA.
