Ventura? “I would say that you are in a position to win Nobel Prize in hypocrisy”

Osecretary-General of the PS today considered that the leader of the Aquida, André Ventura, may win the Nobel Prize for hypocrisy because he is concerned about housing, but supports the government's income law.

“ I would say that he is really in a position to win the Nobel Prize in hypocrisy,” said José Luís Carneiro on the margins of presenting a book on Germano Sousa at the Palácio da Bolsa in Porto.

The socialist leader recalled that André Ventura was this afternoon concerned about the rents of the houses when, himself, he supported the law of the incomes of the PSD/CDS-PP government and opposed the movements that manifested themselves by the right to housing.

“He [André Ventura] supported the government’s rent law that allows young people to be thrown into instability and unpredictability and who, by this means, have more difficulty in accessing the lease and also launched the unpredictability in the future of older people living in large cities,” he insisted.

At a press conference in Lisbon’s national headquarters, André Ventura defended the need for an understanding between the parties to adopt measures that can “really touch on the issues of housing in Portugal and the major problems” of recent years.

José Luís Carneiro promised to beat himself “with all force” to bring down the rent law that the Government of Luís Montenegro intends to approve in Parliament and that will throw into unpredictability and insecurity the youngest, the families of the middle classes and, particularly, the elderly.

“ This is the word of trust that I want to leave to Portuguese and Portuguese ", stressed, adding that the PS made housing, along with health and the increase in the cost of living, one of its priorities.

Asked about the demonstrations for housing, the Secretary-General of the PS stressed that the right to demonstrate is a fundamental right and must be compatible with public policy, security and the welfare of all.

“ It is this balance that must be guaranteed by those who manifest themselves, who naturally have my solidarity, because those who manifest themselves are manifesting themselves by a fundamental right, are manifesting themselves by their difficulties in facing the cost of living, the cost of living with housing, the cost of living with fuels, the cost of living with food and, therefore, I am in solidarity with that cause”, he concluded.
