News to Minutes

Onew Volkswagen Golf and T-Roc start to have more hybrid engines in the portfolio, with introduction of full hybrid variants of both models. Pre-sales have already begun in Germany. Currently, they are marketed in Portugal as “mild-hybrid”.

The thruster assembly, common to both models, proposes a turbocharged gasoline 1.5 evo2 TSI engine associated with an electric generator, no external load. There is also an electric traction motor and a high voltage battery whose raw capacity is 1.6 kWh. That's 170 hp power and 309. Binary Nm, which provide an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The transmission is of fixed ratio.

For short periods and at low speeds, the electric propulsion engine replaces the combustion engine, therefore it is possible to run in 100 percent electric mode in certain situations for a limited time. With electrical assistance, fuel consumption is more contained, as well as carbon dioxide emissions.

In the case of Golf, Volkswagen speaks of 10-15 percent reductions in fuel emissions compared to the 110 kW Golf 1.5 eTSI. The consumption is 4.6 to 5.1 litres per 100 kilometres and 104 to 117 grams of carbon dioxide emitted every kilometre. The current “mild-hybrid” appear with consumptions of 5.1 to 6.5 liters/100 km and emissions of 122 to 148 grams/km – intervals that consider all versions with this type of motorization. The model can also be pure combustion and hybrid plug-in.

As for the T-Roc Hybrid, it proposes consumptions of 5 to 5.6 liters/100 km (against the current 5.5 to 6.4 liters/100 km according to the variant) and CO2 emissions of 115 to 127 grams/km (125 to 145 grams/km depending on the version).

Three modes of operation

The new hybrid VW Golf and T-Roc system has three modes of operation depending on the driving situation:

  • 100% electric: At low speeds, only the electric motor moves the car, which gets the heat drive off.
  • Serial: The electric motor moves the vehicle, while the combustion engine is switched on, but detached – generating power to power the electric power through a generator in an ideal operating range. The goal is to extend electric autonomy.
  • Parallel: Here, the gasoline thruster takes the lead from 60 km/h speed. The electric motor has an aid function, giving a reinforcement when necessary.

On the other hand, the driver can choose from three driving profiles (Eco, Comfort and Sport). In the Echo, the maximum power is limited to 70 percent and there is no Boost function. At the opposite extreme, a more sporty behavior is privileged, with the early change to normal driving mode so that the maximum power is available quickly.

Prices

Still no information on the date of arrival in Portugal, the new Volkswagen Golf Hybrid comes from the 41,400 euros (with R-Line package), while the T-Roc Hybrid Style is proposed from the 44,700 euros – these prices for Germany.

Volkswagen ID.Cross revealed. When you get to Portugal and what's the price?

T-Cross's electrical successor has arrived. The new Volkswagen ID. Cross was officially presented this Wednesday (15 July), with an entry price in the range below 30,000 euros.
