O vox party today filed a criminal complaint before the Court Supreme against the Spanish Transport Minister, Óscar Puente, for alleged crimes of negligent homicide and bodily offenses resulting from serious recklessness related to the railway accident in Urda.
One day after the railway accident, which, according to the latest balance sheet, caused at least 69 dead and dozens injured, the far-right party led by Santiago Abascal founded the complaint on the alleged non-compliance by the minister with his personal duties of steering, control and supervision of railway safety, according to a Vox statement.
The document stated that it is necessary to investigate what information the minister received — or should have required — regarding security breaches, what measures he has promoted and how he has verified the implementation of such measures.
In addition, the complaint mentions warnings and complaints made after railway accidents in Adamuz (Córdoba) and Gelida (Barcelona), as well as the agreement signed on February 9 between the Ministry and trade union organizations to strengthen maintenance, personnel and security.
Among the necessary steps, Vox requests Puente to testify as an investigator, to gather the reports and warnings received by the Ministry of Transport and the railway infrastructure management company (Adif), and to examine the applicable protocols in case of faults in railway protection systems.
The party also calls for the testimony of leaders of the Ministry of Transport, trade union representatives and members of the Adamuz Association of Victims.
It also requires an independent expertise to identify existing deficiencies and concrete measures that could have prevented the collision between the AVE and Iryo trains, which took place on Wednesday in Urda, in the Toledo area.
The document stressed that the causes of the accident have not yet been officially established, however, the charge concentrates the responsibility attributed to the Minister in his possible omissions of supervision and control, without imputing the order for the resumption of movement.
Finally, Vox reported that he filed another criminal complaint against Adif’s officials – with duties in the areas of circulation and security – and asked the Supreme Court to bring these procedures together for coordination purposes.
