A the new york stock exchange closed today in a clear low, affected by a new shrinkage of technological values, given the persistent concerns about the profitability of artificial intelligence (IA), in the context of rising oil price.
The result of the session indicates that the Nasdaq technological index lost 2.14%, the extended S&P500 declined 1.09% and the selective Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 0.34%.
Briefing analysts. with highlighted “a new access of weakness of semiconductor values under the effect of the surrounding fears of the AI”.
To illustrate the day, Nvidia 1.43%, Broadcom 4.52%, Micron 5.63% and AMD 5.95%.
The technology conglomerates, which had been spared by the sales wave, were also sanctioned, such as Meta (-3.72%), Alphabet (-2.47%) or Microsoft (-1.93%).
“Investors’ doubts about massive spending” in the AI sector, “the valuations considered excessive, some dynamics of circular financing and Chinese competition” undermine the New York square, summed up Jose Torres, from Interactive Brokers.
The levels of indebtedness of some groups raise strong concern, in the image of the actors of the so-called ‘neocloud’, which brings together companies that build data centers for AI, such as Coreweave (11.91%), Nebius (12.18%) or Oracle (-4,64 %).
“ Investors see well the size of their debts (...), but they have much less visibility over unlisted companies whose promises are to guarantee this debt,” Joe Tigay, of Equity Armor Investments, pointed out in statements to AFP.
But he countered, “interest pays with liquidity, not with promises”.
The investors are now waiting to see if the sector's quarterly results are up to expectations.
“ The enthusiasm for AI can be reborn if companies announce positive performances and make encouraging statements ", relativized Jose Torres.
The stock market has also suffered today with a further rise in oil prices, due to doubts about the agreement between Washington and Moscow on the purchase of Russian diesel, while the clashes in the Middle East continue.
