“Tiv a very productive meeting,” Zelensky said in his social network account X about his meeting with Merz in Kyiv, which was marked by the warning sirens for air raids.
It is a “aid package” of more than EUR 1,300 million for the Ukrainian energy sector before winter, plus more anti-aircraft defenses, a critical aspect of Ukrainian resistance to the Russian invasion.
Also signed were 15 agreements and documents “for cooperation on security, production, acquisition, requests to the German industry and joint projects” valued at EUR 8,500 million, to which Zelensky referred.
“Thank you, Germany. Thank you, Friedrich. Thank you to all Europe for supporting Ukraine and helping us protect our lives,” concluded the Ukrainian Head of State in his message, which illustrated with the video of Merz’s visit, who first visited Kyiv as chancellor for a bilateral summit.
The German Head of Government made it known that his trip, in which he was accompanied by the Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katherina Reiche, and a delegation from a dozen arms companies and the energy sector, was a demonstration of support for the country invaded by Russia.
Merz's visit today is the fourth of a German Chancellor to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in February 2022.
In May 2024 Merz visited Kyiv together with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk.
