O United Kingdom prepares for next year a state visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reaffirm London’s commitment to Kiev in the war against Russia, today reports the ‘Financial Times’.

Although the date of the trip has not yet been realized, newspaper sources indicate that it is unlikely to coincide with Zelensky's expected presence at the G20 summit, which brings together the major developed and emerging economies, which will be held in Manchester (North England) in November 2027.

“ It is very important to demonstrate that there is broad support for Ukraine in this country, of all parties and practically above political differences,” he told FT a government source.

On 24 February, five years of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which was preceded by the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian Peninsula of Crimea by Russia in 2014 and the beginning of clashes between Ukrainian forces and the pro-Russian separatists in the Donbass, were completed.

The FT explains that the British authorities will adapt the State visit to the circumstances of Zelensky as the leader of a country at war, so great celebrations should be avoided, although without giving up a visual-impact stage.

According to the newspaper, King Charles III, who as head of state would be the official host of the leader, is enthusiastic about the idea and open to proposals to draw the agenda.

Although the monarch makes the formal invitation, the program of acts is prepared by a protocol team of the British Foreign Ministry.

Zelensky visited the United Kingdom on thirteen occasions since the beginning of the war in 2022 and met with both the sovereign and successive British Heads of Government. The last trip was last month when he was welcomed to Downing Street by Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
