Health problems caused by poor nutrition
1- Obesity
“Obesity is a disease that can be caused by poor diet, because excessive intake of calories, especially ultra-processed foods, favors overweight and visceral obesity. The low intake of dietary fibers, present in natural foods, such as whole grains, beans, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, also impairs the maintenance of a healthy weight.”
2 - Anaemia
“ Poor eating is one of the possible causes of anemia, when this disease occurs due to low iron intake.”
3- Type 2 diabetes
“ Poor diet is one of the main causes and risk factors for type 2 diabetes. This is because diets rich in calories, sugars and saturated and trans fats increase blood sugar levels, favoring insulin resistance, which is an important mechanism for the development of type 2 diabetes.”
4- Cardiovascular disorders
“ Cardiovascular diseases, such as infarction, stroke, high blood pressure and atherosclerosis, are conditions that can also be caused by poor eating.”
5- Hepatic steatosis
“ Although the causes of hepatic steatosis, or fat in the liver, are not yet very clear, it is believed that poor nutrition may be related to this condition.”
6- Osteoporosis
“This can happen due to the low intake of foods rich in calcium and vitamin D, which are fundamental to bone health, such as dairy products, sardines and flaxseed, for example.”
7- Chronic kidney disease
“ Poor diet, with high consumption of ultra-processed foods, proteins and salt increase the risk of kidney disease, such as chronic kidney disease. This can happen especially if you already have diabetes or uncontrolled high blood pressure, for example, which are also related to poor eating.”
8- Cancer
“ Poor nutrition may favor cancer development due to a combination of factors that favor the development and multiplication of cancer cells, such as obesity, oxidative stress and chronic inflammation.”
