Ferran Torres' diet and how it can help players
Intermittent fasting is a fairly common type of diet that consists of stopping eating for some periods of time. It may have several versions, such as schedule blocks. It turns out to be a way to help control the schedule of some meals.
Among some of the proven benefits is the ability to make the body use its own fat, improve the response of metabolism, hormones and even achieve certain goals.
What changes on game days?
In the same interview, Ferran Torres revealed that in days of play the diet changes slightly and that ends up not making the typical fast. Instead, at breakfast he ends up eating waffles with white chocolate.
“Every day of the game is our anniversary, we eat waffles with white chocolate. It's our ritual” commented the player. This breakfast may also contain croissants with white chocolate, he explained. The change in the plan may be contradictory, but an expert revealed that it makes some sense.
“ Feeling more energy is not the same as actually having more energy. In professional football, it does not compete based on sensations. It is responsible for energy availability, glycogen stores and the ability to repeat sprints, maintain intensity and delay fatigue” explained nutritionist Roberto Oliver on his Instagram page.
To be able to handle a professional football game ends up needing some attention to energy reserves. “During a game, the difference is not made by those who feel lighter. The difference is made by those who have the energy to exert themselves to the maximum when it matters”, continued.
Thus, he considers that these athletes end up balancing the advantages of intermittent fasting during training with a strategy that gives them more energy during a game day.
